Stop the NC Home Transfer Tax

Dear Buyers and Sellers: Please take a moment to review the facts (http://www.itsabadidea.org/content/page/id/22). The proposal would require homeowners who sell their property to pay an additional tax. That includes people who are forced to sell because of a variety of life circumstances such as death of a spouse, divorce, job loss or military deployment.

Overall, it is simply unfair to single out just people selling their property to pay for infrastructure and services that benefit the entire community.

Some say this is a tax on growth. However, it is the current homeowners who sell who pay this tax, many of whom have lived here and paid property taxes for years. If revenue is needed for services and infrastructure that will benefit everyone, then everyone should pay their fair share.

Local government advocacy groups are saying that citizens need to vote on this issue. Personally, I elected my legislators to make the right decisions on tough issues, with my input. I oppose the transfer tax and citizens just like me have been voicing their opinion about the transfer tax for several months now. Two statewide polls show that approximately 80 percent of the public opposes the transfer tax. Over 40,000 emails have been sent to state lawmakers opposing the transfer tax. Please listen to our opinion and vote NO on this tax on homeownership.

Simply put, no matter how you look at it, this tax is unfair. Vote NO on the proposed transfer tax.
